I was moved to profile Corey Kluber because of a pair of recent performances from this breakout ace:

14 Ks in consecutive starts.  Since Dwight Gooden pulled that off at 19 years old in his rookie season (’84), only Jose Rijo, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson (4 times), and Pedro Martinez (twice, and once he did it 3 consecutive games) have accomplished that absurd feat of dominance.

Despite the historic feat, Corey Kluber likely goes into the offseason as the underdog in the Cy Young race behind King Felix.  However, after Hernandez, in his biggest start of the season vs the Blue Jays, produced a line of 4 2/3 innings and 8 earned, Kluber’s Cy chances might have just gotten a little boost.  It doesn’t hurt that he’s pushing 260 strikeouts on the year and has worked into the 8th inning or better in 13 starts.  That’s what a horse can do for you (Felix has done it 10 times).
