Devonta Smith was the 3rd WR off the board in the 2021 NFL draft. The Eagles traded up to select the elite route runner at pick 10. The Eagles have been desperate for a #1 wide receiver and hope the Alabama alumni can be the guy. At Alabama, Devonta was unguardable, catching for 3,900 yards and 46 touchdowns in his 4 years. His senior year was historic – 1,800 yards and 23 touchdowns in 13 games. He also became the first WR since 1991 to win the heisman and capped it all off with a National Championship victory. There are many concerns about his weight and that may be why he slipped all the way to pick 10. He weighed in at 166 pounds which is incredibly light for an NFL WR. The kid got it done at Alabama against the SEC’s best so it’ll be fun to see how his game translates to the NFL.
When it comes to gear, Devonta Smith is super minimalist. He doesn’t do anything flashy, he lets his game do the talking. He is also the first player I know of to sign with Dicks Sporting Goods. He’s partnering with them on a new men’s apparel line, VRST, which will be sold exclusively at Dicks. This also means he’ll be able to wear just about any gear he wants in the NFL. It’ll be fun to see what he chooses and if he switches it up during the season.
