Dodgers future Hall of Fame pitcher Clayton Kershaw wore the first ever Skechers baseball cleats in last night’s NLDS Game 2 start, and the brand has announced a multi-year partnership with Kershaw.
Kershaw is now wearing the Skechers “one of a kind cleat” which looks more-or-less identical to the Under Armour cleat he has worn for six seasons, the UA Ignite. Kershaw’s partnership will also include trainers that will be sold at retail. According to a Skechers press release, Kershaw will appear in global marketing campaigns for Skechers men’s performance and athletic lifestyle footwear set to launch in 2020.
Kershaw described that he’s been involved in the product development process in the press release:
“I’ve been working with the design team on several styles, and I am extremely impressed with the performance and comfort offered by Skechers. We have some unexpected and exciting ideas that fans will love.”
The three-time Cy Young just came off another Hall of Fame season in which he pitched to a 16-5 record with a 3.05 ERA. For most pitchers, that’s a career year… for Kershaw its the first season since his rookie year (2008) that he finished with an ERA over 3.00!
Skechers has always had the reputation of being for an older crowd, so this signing will most definitely bring a little added trolling to the 31-year old Kershaw’s plate.
