Another year, another season of Mike Trout swinging Old Hickory lumber. Trout is staying with his signature MT27 model for the 2023 season, although he swung the J143M in his earlier years. Old Hickory describes the MT27 model as a bat with “a long barrel with great balance for maximum production”. Its exact measurements are a 2 1/2 barrel, 29/32 handle, and a standard knob. In simpler terms it has a medium to big barrel and a thin handle which produces whip will staying balanced. You can get the MT27 here for $194.99.

If you’re a bigger fan of vintage Trout, the J143M is also available for $194.99. It’s stated on Old Hickory’s site that it has the same dimensions, but features “an extremely long barrel and a large sweet spot”.

Trout also uses a Lizard Skin bat grip. Popular with over half of the league, available at Academy for $11.99. Lizard Skins design their bat grips to reduce vibration and increase comfort, and based on the widespread usage it’s safe to say it works.

Whichever bat you choose, whether its the MT27 or the J143M, you’ll be swinging a bat popular with some of the bats hitters across the league.
