Shohei Ohtani went 2 for 3 with a homer in his first appearance against fellow countryman Yusei Kikuchi. Both products of Hanamaki Higashi High School, this was the first MLB match-up between Japanese-born players since 2009. Ohtani’s homer was the last of three consecutive by the Angels, including blasts by Tommy La Stella and Mike Trout; he did it while rocking exclusive Asics’ cleats, batting gloves and guards. While last season he wore a solid red pair, Shohei has been wearing a black to red gradient pair of cleats this season.
