We did Billy Hamilton’s hitting profile a while back, and weren’t able to complete his defensive profile because there was legitimately no way to find out what glove he was using unless we went to a Louisville Bats game. So we waited patiently until Slick Billy got the call. He’s stolen four bases in five appearances, and the good news for WPW is that someone took a picture of his glove.

Louisville Slugger Custom Pro Flare Trap (Possible mesh but we’ll hopefully have confirmation from LS tomorrow)
Hamilton is the first Big Leaguer we’ve seen wearing a Louisville glove, in the Pro Flare style, a popular glove in the college ranks as we’ve seen in our “Show It Off” college features. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more of these pop up as those younger players begin their pro careers. As an Outfielder, the flare design is an intriguing element to me, though I haven’t had experience with it. Though I am less sure of its effectiveness in the infield, as a guy running down fly balls I could see it being a slight advantage on balls hit behind you. Louisville claims the flare helps on the transfer, but I can’t really see that.

Hamilton’s glove looks like a custom because it borrows an element from Louisville Slugger’s HD9 “Hybrid” gloves, which are pro mesh over the hand in a tooth-like style. You can see what I mean in the above photo, the only one taken of Hamilton’s glove so far this year. Aside from that design element (we don’t think he’s using mesh), Hamilton’s glove looks identical to the FGPF14-BK130, a 13″ trap which is available online.
