Got our first Spring action with the defending champs and the Colorado Rockies today. Brandon Barnes was happy to see WPW and let us know about these Vapor Elite 3.0 batting gloves, which ended up being one of the highlights for us. That purple and volt is so lethal. Some bad-ass tattoos only serve to enhance the look. To our surprise and delight, these are available at the link.
Charlie Blackmon’s Rawlings PRO303 had a nice wear to it. A lot of would-be hits taken away with that thing.
WPW follower and contributor Christian Colon gave us our first look at Victus’ ProPACT line. According to Victus:
Our ProPACT finish alleviates the natural break-in process and hardens the wood by compressing it substantially. Accompanied by our pro hard finish, you can now receive a dent resistant rock hard product.
Colon’s I13C (cupped) has a matte black finish. Victus is seeing 60% more orders than last year as their name continues to spread though Big League clubhouses.
Drew Butera had a nicely “Royalized” set of Nike MVP Elite 3/4 cleats.
Rockies DH Dustin Garneau had a Cutters leg guard that caught our eye. Looked pretty comfortable too.
I’m realizing there is a lot of blue Rawlings leather in the Royals clubhouse. Edinson Volquez, Raul Mondesi, Jr., Eric Hosmer, and of course, Alcides Escobar all have blue Rawlings gloves. We recently saw Moustakas with a blue adidas glove, so it might be a completely blue infield this year.
Old Hickory Ash is not something we see every day, and Ben Paulsen got an RBI knock with his JB5. Old Hick says its a 271L.
Brandon Barnes didn’t have his purple Nike SHA|DO from last year, instead a Rawlings PRO303, the MLB standard.
WPW follower Jose Martinez shredded Pacific Coast League pitching last year. We saw him in a flashy pair of Oakley Radars that went well with the threads.
Kendrys Morales’ MaxBat AS12 is available.
Lorenzo Cain was rocking a new style, the Oakley Radar EV Path, which is almost attainable through the Oakley custom builder, but without the light blue icon.
Cain stays with the Old Hick DP15 Maple 34″. He’s been swinging it ever since we’ve been paying attention.
…the Wilson A2000 1799 is Cain’s model and he doesn’t waste time with flashy colors. Too busy flashing leather.
Paulo Orlando hit a missile dead center off Jordan Lyles with the new Louisville Slugger bat, which has a finish that makes these Sluggers the hardest ever. We’ll get you some more details on that in the near future when we hear from Slugger.
Raul Mondesi Jr.’s adidas Excelsior Pro cleats are an old model with a new detail that we really liked. You can get the Excelsior Pro for ridiculously cheap on BaseballSavings.com.
Mondesi legged out a bunt single with a Slugger B415.
Rockies catcher Tom Murphy had some Nike gear we haven’t seen before. We think its the “Elite” which we only found on SportsAuthority.com.
Tony Cruz is no longer Yadi’s understudy, but he’s clearly taken some pointers on gear. He’s wearing the Yadi chest protector and gear, and we noticed he had the Pro Mesh back Rawlings just like Yadi, too.
