OK State’s Big Bopper Dustin Williams Reviews the New DeMarini Voodoo Insane

DeMarini Voodoo Insane 2017 Bat Review (1)

We asked Oklahoma State 1B Dustin Williams, who hit 14 bombs this year to lead the Big 12 Conference, what he thought about the new 2017 DeMarini Voodoo Insane (End-loaded).

Williams had been swinging the black bat (the 2016 Voodoo Raw), but in Super Regionals DeMarini sent the team the new CF8 and the grey bat pictured, the 2017 Voodoo Insane. Dustin compares the two new options:

DW: Both of those bats (2016 Voodoo Raw and 2017 Voodoo Insane) are more end loaded and I like being able to feel the head of the bat throughout my swing.  In my opinion the Voodoo Insane feels a little stiffer than the new CF8 when I swung which felt like it had a little more flex in it at contact.

WPW: So you’re saying the new Voodoo is a little stiffer than the CF8?  Which one do you prefer?

DW: Yes I think the new Voodoo is stiffer. I personally prefer the stiffness to the flex of the CF8 but several guys on the team really like the new CF8.

WPW: We’ve heard that some BBCOR bats get better with age. Is that true or myth?

DW: I’ve heard that some of the BBCOR bats get better with time and I’ve noticed it with some of the older Voodoo models (specifically the original white and red models) but the 2016 and 2017 models felt really good to me when I first started swinging them and still feel the same to me as they did out of the box.

WPW: So you’re swinging that new Voodoo then I take it?

DW: Yeah I started using it during super regionals and it really felt like the ball jumped off the bat so I started using it over the 2016 Voodoo even though I had been using that one all season.

Thanks to Dustin (@dustin_williams22), and good luck to all the remaining teams. Looks like any one of these squads could take the whole thing.
