Josh Reddick is as good a right fielder as there is. Along with Cespedes and Coco, they make up one of the fastest outfields in baseball, though the rival Anaheim Angels have quite the triumvirate when Bourjos is out there (with Trout and Hunter), too. Reddick’s arm is his best asset. Watching the throw above, you can get a great sense of why Josh is so successful at throwing out runners. Its not necessarily his arm strength, as there are plenty of stronger arms throughout the league—what sets Reddick apart is a quick release and lethal accuracy. Reddick sets himself behind the ball so he can catch it while already moving towards the target, then he releases the ball high above his head, eliminating any natural tail, so the backspin carries the ball straight to the target. For these reasons, Reddick puts the ball on the bag consistently, and even if it does bounce, it bounces straight. As an outfielder, moving towards your target (when possible) and throwing a straight ball are the key to throwing guys out, and Reddick’s fundamentals are perfect.
Now that we’ve completed that lesson, we’ll move on to the gear. Reddick wears a Wilson A2000 1799 glove in black (just like in the feature). This glove is available online. Thanks to WPW reader Ray’s (@raylikesitdirty) persistence, we know that Reddick’s glove is actually the A2000 Y model, which is discontinued and only available by private sellers (eBay, glove-works) if you can find it. Here’s a decent look at it:
Reddick has worn a couple different colorways of the Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ recently. The colors you see in the feature are the most recent set, and they are available online. Specs are as follows (Reddick’s icons are slightly different):
Frame: Plasma
Lens: Ice Iridium XLJ
Icon: Gunmetal Black
Earsock: Black
And before those, we saw these:
Specs:
Frame: Team Bright Green
Lens: VR28 Black Polarized XLJ
Icon: Satin Silver/Yellow
Earsock: White
For that Spidey-esque catch in the first vid, Reddick earned the nickname “Spiderman” and played the part for a post-game pie-ing of Coco Crisp.

Josh uses an a2000 Y which has the Y web, not the 1799.

This model got discontinued for the public but I found one being sold on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=wilson+a2000+y&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=wilson+a2000+y-bg&_sacat=0
Ray, I absolutely saw that you had tweeted me this and I swear to you I thought I was seeing the 1799. I now have no idea what I was looking at because you’re right. Totally my fault and I feel pretty stupid about it. Sorry about that and I’ll fix it.
