Its not often you can look at a guy throw two pitches and think, “Oh good God.” That was my reaction seeing that 88 mph slider that started middle and dove off the outside corner right after the 98 mph two-seam painted on the inside corner. That’s really all you need to see to understand what Mets fans are so excited about for the 2013 season. Wheeler should be up around the All-Star break, if not earlier, and looks like a future ace for years to come.
Wheeler wears the Rawlings Pro Preferred PROS200-12PRBPRO in black with tan lacing. This dual-hinge basket webbed glove is available online (thanks to WPW reader Aidan for tracking it down).
Under Armour Natural III Cleats (worn with Binghamton Mets)
As for his feet, Wheeler has worn a few different Under Armour styles. For the Futures game in July, Wheeler wore the Under Armour Ignite III cleats you see in the feature. These cleats are sparingly available, though you probably won’t find them in Wheeler’s bright blue. While playing for the AA Binghamton Mets in the Eastern League, Wheeler also wore grey/black Under Armour Natural III cleats. These are available on Baseball Rampage, but not in his exact colors (though there is a grey/black version, but not identical).
