WPW On-Field: Nats vs Mets, Players’ Weekend (Harper, Juan Soto, Trea, Gio)

By Ben Masi

Players’ Weekend on-field with the Nats @ Mets begs the question: does Bryce lease out space in his teammates’ lockers?

The swag king (who else?) leads us off with his Under Armour Harper 3 Low cleats that he had customized by children on behalf of his Harper’s Heros foundation.

Harper did the same with his bat, which is interesting not only because of the artwork, but whoever made this bat for Bryce actually removed all of their own logos, giving the young artists a little more creative freedom.

In his first AB though, Harper came up with a Warstic BH34 Ash bat that we showed off on IG:

Later on he swung a Victus with custom “rebar” paint on the handle, an extra special nod to his pops, who was part of Reinforcing Ironworkers Local 416 “Rodbusters” when Bryce was growing up in Vegas.

The Victus is a Maple KP26 which we think is a Kevin Plawecki model.  The KP26 is not available on Victus’ website, but Victus offers the closest alternative, the V243.

Harper’s batting gloves had a PE treatment, with design elements that match his Harper 3 signature cleat.  These look a lot like the Under Armour Harper Hustle batting gloves.

Bryce’s cleats completed the tribute to his dad. These Harper 3 cleats, by @solesbysir, were inspired by the Redwing work boots that his dad wore as an ironworker.  Under Armour will be releasing both low and high top stock versions of the Harper 3 in Fall of 2018.

Last but not least, Harper wore these Vans inspired customs on Saturday.

Harper wore his tried and true Rawlings PROHARP34. This is his long-time gamer, a black and camel model he recently went back to after, according to Bryce, MLB threatened him with fines if he wore the flashier white BH x PABLO glove (he did whip it out for Players’ Weekend, briefly). The black and camel glove is based on the classic PRO303 pattern from Rawlings. A personal favorite of mine, this pattern features a deep pocket and an easy thumb to pinky or ring finger closure.  Harper’s Gamer can be shopped at that link.

Here’s Bryce with the Rawlings BH x PABLO OptiCore we mentioned earlier. We’ve seen this before but its always worth a second look. Based off his PROHARP34 pattern, all white, hand sewn welt, gold trim, and zebra mesh on the ring finger. A little flashy but it somehow comes together beautifully.   Sadly, this one is not available to the public just yet.

Bryce was not the only Nat to break out some custom-painted swag. Teenage stud Juan Soto represented the Dominican Republic proudly in his “Childish Bambino” Dominican flag custom UA Harper 2 high tops. One of the cleanest pairs from the weekend. Simple and elegant.  Shop the Harper 2 here.

The young slugger Juan Soto is no slouch in the glove department either. His custom A2000 1799 boasts the Nats logo, which simply doesn’t get used enough by Wilson guys, and Nats colors. A mix of custom and classic, Soto’s H-Web combines leather and superskin.  Update: Here’s a link to buy Juan Soto’s Wilson 1799 game glove.  Wilson’s 2019 line has been released and the stock 1799 does not disappoint. This is definitely Wilson’s most popular OF pattern in the MLB.

Soto’s trainer is another gorgeous custom. This one is a custom LHT Wilson A2000 1786. This one features red Superskin and the Nats logo, just like his gamer. For middle infielders, there’s nothing better than the 1786. It can be broken in flat or deep, straight up or two in the pinky. It can definitely fit any playing style.

Gio Gonzalez (Editor’s Note: Just traded to the Brewers!) added the paint splatter theme to his Jordan 11s, which we’ve only ever seen as football cleats at retail.

Ryan Zimmerman swung this beautiful red and silver Louisville Slugger Prime C353 with the custom Players’ Weekend logo.  Zim swings a 34.5/33.5.  We’ll update this with a link and more details on the C353.

Another vet never lacking in prime gear is Nationals backstop Matt Wieters. A constant in his career, Wieters catches with a gold-labeled Rawlings Heart of the Hide. Update: Here’s a link to the closest alternative to Matt Wieters’ game mitt.  A custom named for Wieters can also be found on Rawlings’ website.

I appreciate when pros are proud of what got them to the next level.  Exhibit A: Trea Turner’s NC State adizero Afterburners.  This is a sick design that already popped, then you sprinkle in the school pride and these ABVs are some of the best from the weekend.

Turner also had a red pair, too.

Joey Bats’ rocked an orange Marucci elbow guard in his last days as a Met.  Bautista is a huge Marucci advocate, and, as a prolific bat-flipper, he likes that the elbow guard offers protection of the upper forearm to about mid bicep, more than most on the market.

Amed Rosario put a clown emoji on his Fresh Foam New Balance 3000v4’s. The 3000v4 is gaining a lot of steam in MLB as New Balance continues to make some of the best cleats in the game.  Rosario’s custom paint job by @kdcustomkicks.

“El Niño” also showed off one of the most common items across ballparks during players weekend, Stance socks.  Stance adds flash to a “classic” style, the high socks.

The Toddfather continues to man the hot corner with his Wilson A2000 TDFTHR 12.25″ gamer. A classic look that will never go out of style. While this model is a few years old now, his latest model (inspired by his White Sox days) can still be had.
