Kawhi was ready to take the next step for the 2015-16 season. While he wore the XX9 at the start of the year, Leonard soon switched to the Jordan XXX when the shoe was unveiled in January 2016 by lauded designers Tinker Hatfield and Mark Smith. This sneaker was pretty similar in comparison to the XX8 and XX9, with the same tooling setup of those styles featuring unlocked Zoom Air and the FlightPlate (which was renamed FlightSpeed.) The upper looks aesthetically different compared to the past two models but features the same durable jacquard/woven material from the XX9.
Kawhi pushed his numbers up once more this year, increasing his point average from 16.5 to 21.2 for the entire season. With Leonard being the leader on the Spurs in both offense and defense, the swingman was voted into his first All-Star game. For this game and subsequent games, Kawhi rocked PE colorways with his hand logo on the tongue.
