Giannis Antetokounmpo
“Freak athlete” is a term that gets thrown around a lot. Nobody fits the billing like “The Greek Freak” himself, Giannis Antetokounmpo. His comically long wingspan and strides make Giannis a human cheat code. In Nike shoes, Giannis Antetokounmpo can do it all. ESPN broke down his impressive physical traits for their Sports Science series.
Before Antetokounmpo became a really hard to spell household name, he was an 18-year old with nicknames like “The Alphabet.” Giannis entered the 2013 NBA Draft as a mystery player. He played in a secondary Greek league that featured lackluster talent. Mystery intrigued the Bucks and Giannis was chosen 15th overall as a 6’9″ skinny project. Now he’s one of the NBA’s most electrifying players.
Despite his size, Giannis has worn mostly guard-specific shoes. The only exceptions were the LeBron 9 Low and Hyperdunk 2011 during his rookie and media day photo shoots, which both are mostly worn by larger players. Read on to see Giannis’ shoe history over his NBA career.
