Omar Little once said: “you come at the king, you best not miss.” Well Giannis Antetokounmpo took his shot at the 2020 All-Star Game opposite West captain LeBron James.
This play occurred early in the 4th quarter, with LeBron looking to play pick-and-roll with Anthony Davis. Giannis quickly recovered from the screen though and looked to hold his ground on a LeBron post-up. James went for a pump-fake that didn’t fool the Greek Freak. Almost trapped, LeBron tried shoulder jabbing Giannis to create space on the fadeaway. Antetokounmpo’s 7’3″ wingspan wouldn’t relent though, easily blocking the jumper to the surprise of the United Center crowd.
The Nike Zoom Freak 1 that Giannis rocked was designed with Giannis’ rangy movements in mind, with multidirectional traction being particularly aggressive at the pinky toe section. The traction extends up in this area with rubber clips. This was done up to aid with Antetokounmpo’s extremely long-striding euro steps, providing control when Giannis goes side to side. Further performance features include two stacked Zoom Air units in the heel for extra bounce when landing.
Giannis rocked the plaid “Employee of the Month/ Coming to America” colorway for this moment, which can be found HERE.
You can find other colors at Dick’s Sporting Goods, StockX, Stadium Goods, and GOAT.
