With one of the greatest blocks in NBA Finals history, Giannis Antetokounmpo crushed an alley-oop dunk attempt from DeAndre Ayton.
The scene was game 4 of the Finals, with the Phoenix Suns up 2-1 in the series. There was under 2 minutes left in the game, with the Milwaukee Bucks clinging to a 2-point lead. Devin Booker received the rock from Ayton on a handoff and pick and his drive pulled Giannis toward Book for help defense. This allowed Ayton to roll as Booker threw up the lob. Antetokounmpo turned his head quickly to eye DeAndre and used his long legs to close the gap. As Ayton caught the ball with two hands, the Greek Freak somehow was right in his face, swatting the slam towards teammate P.J. Tucker. This clutch block led to the Bucks 109-103 win, tying the series 2-2 on their way to the 2021 championship.
The sneaker Antetokounmpo wore for this career highlight is the Nike Zoom Freak 2. Much of Giannis’ 2nd signature shoe was made to take advantage of Giannis’ moves and explosiveness. The outsole is decoupled with different forms of traction on the heel and forefoot. The wider traction in the heel is more firm to withstand all the impact from landing. This combines with the reinforced lateral outrigger, a frequent landing spot for Giannis as he gathers.
The tan, red and yellow PE that the Greek Freak rocked isn’t currently available.
You can find Giannis’ Nike Zoom Freak 2 at StockX, GOAT, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
