Player-by-Player Breakdown of the Gear of the HR Derby

So first thing’s first, what’d you guys think of the new format?

I thought it was pretty sick.  My roomate, who is not a huge fan of baseball, actually seemed to be enjoying it as well, which I took as a good sign.

As for the gear, lets break down each player.  The story of the night, as far as the gear goes, is that Marucci was swung by seven out of the eight participants, with Tucci the only other brand with representation:

Anthony Rizzo

Bat

Marucci Rizz44 Maple (Just released for sale to the public) w/ a Lizard Skin Grip in Wildfire Camo

Batting Gloves

Nike Vapor 3.0 Fireworks (Exclusive colorway, but Nike made a different colorway available—which looks like it has subsequently sold out)

Cleats

Nike Air Huarache 2K Filth Fireworks (looks like the colorway the guys were wearing last night is “Coming Soon” with other available)

Josh Donaldson

Bat

Marucci JD20 Maple 34/32 (Similar to the AP5)

Batting Gloves

Nike Vapor 3.0 Fireworks (See Rizzo)

Cleats

Nike Air Huarache 2K Filth Fireworks (see Rizzo)

Prince Fielder

Bat

Tucci TL-271 Maple with a Lizard Skin Grip in Blue

Batting Gloves

Nike MVP Elite Pro 2.0 in Black (unavailable in Prince’s color)

Cleats

Adrian Beltre’s Nike Air Max Diamond Elite 2

Throwback!  Prince threw us a curveball, passing on the 2K Filth for teammate Adrian Beltre’s Diamond Elite 2s, which we remember from as far back as 2012.

Albert Pujols

Bat

marucci-ap5p-maple-bat-albert-pujols

Marucci AP5 Maple

Batting Gloves

pujols-nike-show

Nike Show

At this point in his career, Pujols knows what works.  He’s been wearing these BG’s for years, and when you’re a master of hitting, there’s no need to fiddle with it.  Though it was interesting that his bottom hand turned out to be an issue.  It looked like he was sweating quite a bit up there, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Cleats

Nike MVP Elite 3/4

Kris Bryant

(We highlighted some of Bryant’s gear yesterday.)

Bat

Marucci KB17 Maple 34/31

This one was a surprise, as we hadn’t seen Bryant swinging Marucci to this point.  Based on the information we got from Victus (another brand that Bryant has swung), this is a 243.

Batting Gloves

adidas Special Edition

Bryant was all decked out in what adidas called their “Uncaged” collection, which was made especially for Bryant for the occasion.

Sleeve

adidas Compression with Grizzly graphic (exclusive)

Cleats

adidas adiZero Afterburner 2.0 Uncaged (we highlighted these yesterday)

Manny Machado

Bat

Marucci AP5 Maple 34/32

Batting Gloves

Jordan Team (discontinued)

Cleats

manny-machado-jordan-7-asg

Batting Gloves

Champion Todd Frazier
