Opening Day Updates: Josh Harrison, Matt Carpenter, Alcides Escobar, Salvy

Quick hits from Opening Day to get this party started…

Yadi wearing a custom version of the Rawlings Pro Preferred/Velo gear that is a marriage of his longtime favorite, the “Yadi” gear, and the new Rawlings style that we’ve seen Salvy and Francisco Cervelli in.

Matt Carpenter is one of our favorites at WPW, and not because he’s flashy, but because he’s not flashy at all. All that guy needs to beat you is a dirty old glove and a 2 by 4, but this year, Carp got some sexy Trout 2s that will make even the flashiest guys jealous:

Notice the Horned Frog on the lace keeper, for Carp’s alma mater, currently #10 ranked TCU.

Lots of new cleats, and to avoid redundancy, check our Instagram for Chris Archer, Byron Buxton, and Gio to name a few.

Josh Harrison gives us our first game action shot of the new Louisville Slugger Prime, which we discussed a few weeks ago.  These bats have a new finish called EXO ARMOR, “a finish that doubles the surface hardness of the bat, creating superior feel and unmatched sound on contact.”  Didn’t get a shot of the model details, but we have seen Harrison swing the Slugger JH5 in the past.

Harrison is also rocking a new Wilson A2K 1786 Superskin that you can get here.

New Franklin Powerstrap batting gloves for Francisco Cervelli, and we saw Starling Marte wearing these (with Cervelli’s #29), too.

Alcides Escobar has retired the old maid that got him his first Gold Glove, and now he’s rocking the Gold-labeled beauty that we first saw in Spring Training:

Gold was the color for the champs on Opening Day, highlighted by a gold “Royals” on the chest, and a peppering of Rawlings gold labels all over the field.  Eric Hosmer, Alcides Escobar, and Salvy all collected their Gold Glove Awards pregame, and Salvy had the labels, as well as gold paint on the knees of his Rawlings leg guards.

Also of note, Hosmer, who told WPW he’d have a new gamer this year, is back to the all-Blue Rawlings PRODCTSL-25 that we’ve seen him wear for years.
