After a few years working on other projects, Huarache 2K4 and 2K5 designer Eric Avar returned to collaborate with Kobe Bryant on his third signature shoe. The eye-catching, rubber net design on the upper helped provide a cage-like fit, with the “holes” of the pattern providing breathability while reducing weight. Zoom Air units in the heel and forefoot provided bouncy cushioning, while a pronounced outrigger helped prevent rollovers.
Kobe’s on-court success saw a return to form while in the Zoom Kobe 3, as the 2008 midseason trade for Pau Gasol bolstered the Los Angeles Lakers to the number one seed in the Western Conference. Kobe was also recognized for his play, winning his lone regular season MVP trophy for the year. These highs were balanced by lows though, as the team lost in the NBA Finals in 6 games to the rival Boston Celtics.
