Russell Westbrook started the 2014-15 season in the Air Jordan XX9 (29), which took the best elements of the XX8 and improved upon it. The shoe adopted the Flightplate system from its predecessor, with unlocked Zoom Air returning as well. This time, a tendril piece was added between the heel and forefoot outsole parts to add midfoot support. The upper was upgraded to what the Jordan Brand called a “performance woven” material that moves with your foot but still was strong enough to avoid ripping.
Westbrook would end up winning the scoring title, averaging 28.1 points per game in the XX9.
