With the 4th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, the Seattle Supersonics picked Russell Westbrook from UCLA. Things would quickly change for the skinny guard, as the Sonics relocated to Oklahoma City a few weeks later. Russ also switched from the adidas shoes he wore as a Bruin to signing a contract with Nike. One of his first shoes worn on-court was a bulky big man shoe that fellow teammate Jeff Green wore.
The Nike Power Max featured a full-length Air Max bubble for maximum impact protection. The upper also featured multiple panels of leather and mesh to add more support to the shoe. While all of these features add considerable weight to the shoes, it didn’t stop Russ from dunking on dudes. Russ also accomplished the first of many triple-doubles against Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks while rocking the shoes.
The Nike Power Max is currently unavailable at retailers.
