Giannis Antetokounmpo was set to become a sneaker free agent in 2017, and was torn between adidas (who sent him a wagon full of Yeezys) and the brand he wore leading up to the summer in Nike Basketball. Before Giannis could decide, he jokingly asked Kobe Bryant for a challenge on Twitter, for which the Black Mamba simply responded: “MVP”.

While Giannis never said if this interaction swayed him on his decision, the Greek Freak did eventually choose to sign with the Swoosh and continue rocking Kobe Bryant’s post-career sneaker: the Nike Kobe A.D. This 2017 version featured a mid-cut design with a bouncy Zoom Air unit in the heel combining with plush Lunarlon in the forefoot for a comfortable ride.

Giannis dropped many jaw-dropping highlights in the sneaker, including the “did he just do that?” dunk over Tim Hardaway Jr., which you can check out via the related moments section below.

You can find the Nike Kobe A.D. at StockX, Stadium Goods and Flight Club.
