Despite signing a lucrative deal with the Jordan Brand, Luka Doncic chose to rock the swoosh on January 27th for one night.
This was the Dallas Mavericks’ first game after Kobe Bryant’s tragic death the day before. Doncic had often cited Kobe as his idol, and wore the Kobe 4 Protro prior to his new sneaker deal.
The original Kobe 5 released in 2009 with simple Zoom Air bags in the heel and forefoot. For the updated protro release, the forefoot unit gets upgraded to Zoom Turbo. The larger Zoom Turbo bag is articulated for added flexibility and more bounce. The Phylon foam in the original gets replaced with Cushlon, which is softer and better assists in energy return.
Doncic rocked the Kobe 5 Protro “Chaos” with “RIP KOBE”, “RIP GIGI”, and the numbers 2 (Gigi’s), 8 and 24 written in Sharpie. He also wrote RIP for the other people who perished in the helicopter crash: Christina Mauser and the Chester family.
