Luka Doncic

Prior to his NBA debut, Luka Doncic was an international man of mystery in Slovenia. Sure he won the multiple awards including 2018 EuroLeague MVP, but could his skills translate in the big leagues?

Just months after hoisting the EuroLeague championship trophy, Luka was drafted 3rd overall by the Atlanta Hawks. Doncic was then traded to Dallas for Trae Young. Expectations were high for Doncic, as he was the favorite to win Rookie of the Year.

Luka did not disappoint, dropping opponents with deceptive crossovers and stepbacks in Nike shoes. His vision also helped get teammates easy buckets. Young did give Luka a run for his money, but Doncic finished the year with one of the best stat lines ever for a rookie.

He averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 6.0 assists a game, joining 1961 Rookie of the Year Oscar Robertson as the only rookies in league history to average at least 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists per game. With those numbers, Luka won the 2019 Rookie of the Year award.
