Before his signature line, Damian Lillard’s early career saw collaborations with adidas on player exclusives. One of these colorways includes the adidas Crazy 8, done up in the Portland Trail Blazers black, red and silver.
While not as detail oriented as his other exclusives, this Crazy 8 features Lillard’s number 0 embroidered on the lower lace portion of the tongue. Damian chose this number because it represents his entire basketball career. The number looks like the letter O, which stands for his hometown in Oakland, his Weber State college town in Ogden, and the Trail Blazers state in Oregon.
The adidas Crazy 8 first released in 1997 as the adidas KB8. This was one of Kobe Bryant’s most popular adidas non-signature shoes before the three stripes dropped “The KOBE.” The Crazy 8 was a continuation of the “Feet You Wear” technology that shaped the midsole and outsole to allow your feet to move naturally. The shoes also featured the Torsion system; a plastic arch support piece that alleviated any straining from extra motion. The cushioning used is adiPrene, which helps less shock when running and landing.
While not worn extensively in-game, adidas has dropped player exclusives or classic three-stripe models for Lillard and his fans on January, 4 2014.
