Shot blockers always risk posterization when going for the ball. On an instance early in the 2018-19 season, Jarrett Allen’s gamble failed at the hands of Anthony Davis.
The play started off innocuously with New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday driving towards the rim. A kick out caught a defender off-guard, with a Brooklyn Nets player rushing at Anthony Davis. A quick pump fake set him in stone, as the lane was wide open for a Davis rim run. Jarrett Allen bravely jumped but seconds after Anthony did. As if in slow motion, all Allen could do was stare back at Davis throwing a 1-handed slam past his arm. Say cheese, Jarrett.
The sneakers Davis was wearing in this highlight was the Nike Kobe AD, which dropped in 2018. This was a departure for Anthony who typically wore bulkier, more supportive footwear. As the signature name suggests, the Kobe AD is a guard shoe, featuring a lightweight bootie construction. A bouncy Zoom Air unit is also added in the heel for responsiveness.
The red colorway worn in this poster dunk can be found for a limited time at Eastbay HERE.
You can find other colorways of the Nike Kobe AD at StockX, Stadium Goods, and Flight Club.
