Michael Jordan Goes Behind-the-Back on Save and Assist in the Air Jordan 7 Shoes

Amazing things happen when you put some of the best players in NBA history on the same team. The 1992 Dream Team saw the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird team up to demolish teams and make crazy plays like this one. Before the actual Olympic Games, Mike and the Dream Team played exhibition games in the Tournament of Americas in Portland, Oregon. The first game was against a Cuba squad that stood no chance.

On this play, an errant kickback pass soared to half-court where Mike raced to retrieve it. Before the ball could fall out of bounds, MJ dove and saved the ball behind his back. The Cuban team didn’t think much of the wild sequence, watching idly as the ball fell from the sky right into Bird’s lap.Larry Legend then launched from mid-range in the corner, drawing net and scoring two. Just your casual, no-look, behind-the-back, half-court assist for Michael.

The sneakers that Michael Jordan rocked in this game was the Air Jordan 7. This sneaker was the first to ditch external Nike branding, as the Jordan Brand was becoming its own entity. The Jordan 7 also ditched visible Air for heel and forefoot Air that provided more cushioning. The shoe was noticeably lighter than the past 6 signature shoes, with a neoprene bootie reducing weight on the upper. Visually, the shoe takes elements from African art, with the sharp lines being inspired by African tribal patterns.

The “Olympic” colorway that Mike wore during this games and for the 1992 Summer Games can be found HERE.
