Exactly one week after unretiring with the iconic fax stating “I’m Back”, Michael showed he still had it against the Atlanta Hawks.
After rusty performances in three games since returning, Mike returned to form with a solid shooting performance in this game. It was his last shot that was most iconic though, with his Chicago Bulls down 97-98 with 5.9 seconds remaining. There was little doubt that Michael would get the ball as he raced up the court. MJ shimmied his shoulders before raising up from midrange near the free throw line. This bucket didn’t come easy, swirling around the rim before settling through the net with 0.0 left on the clock. He still had it, even with the #45 on his jersey.
The sneakers that Mike laced up for this game was the Air Jordan 10. This was designed to celebrate Michael’s career, with lateral stripes on the outsole memorializing each of his biggest achievements to that point of his career. As for the technology in the shoe, two advancements were made in the cushioning of the AJ10. This was the first Jordan shoe to introduce the light Phylon, a foam still used in sneakers today. Phylon also surrounded the upgraded full-length Air bag that provided more impact protection.
