Even in game two of his NBA career, Michael Jordan showed he had the hops that gave him the “Air” Jordan moniker.
On this play, Chicago Bulls Guard Ennis Whatley was rushing up the court on a 3-on-1 fast break against future hall-of-famer Sidney Moncrief. With the Milwaukee Bucks legend retreating, Whatley threw an underhanded lob to his left to Michael. His Airness flew up and threw down a two-handed slam over Moncrief, while also getting the foul call. The Milwaukee crowd oohed at the play, with the Bulls announcers letting out a “holy Toledo” on the poster dunk.
The sneakers Michael wore in this game was the Nike Air Ship. Contrary to popular belief, this was the shoe that was banned by the NBA and not the Air Jordan 1. Both sneakers did feature the bright red that had the NBA fining Mike $5000 every game though.
You can find the Nike Air Ship in the Air Jordan New Beginning’s Pack at StockX and GOAT.
