All eyes were on Zion Williamson for his long-awaited NBA debut against the San Antonio Spurs.
The number one overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft had dealt with knee injuries dating back to summer league. Many criticized his weight and there were reports that the Pelicans needed to re-train Williamson on how to walk and run.
Zion started the game with three minute spurts that didn’t allow for much momentum. He finally got extended minutes in the 4th quarter, where he morphed into a Splash Brother. The guy known for his dunks was swishing open 3-pointers left and right, while also finishing layups. Zion scored 17 straight points of his 22 on the night, giving the Pelicans a 1-point lead with 6 minutes left. A minutes restriction unfortunately forced Williamson to the bench and New Orleans would end up losing the game. The home crowd chanting “we want Zion” to echo what everybody watching at home was thinking on this dazzling first game for Zion.
The sneakers Zion rocked for his debut was the Air Jordan XXXIV. The 34th jumpman sneaker features large Zoom Air units in the heel and forefoot to give Williamson even more bounce to his step. A cored out pebax plate surrounds these units for lightweight stability. The upper is composed of a lightweight mesh for breathability, with a woven layer adding much needed durability.
Zion rocked a green faux-gator colorway dubbed the “Bayou Boys” for this moment, which is available HERE.
You can find other colors of the Air Jordan 34 at StockX and GOAT.
