(A Masked) LeBron James Crushes Dunk Over Damon Jones in the Nike LeBron 2 Shoes

One of LeBron James first poster dunks occurred against a future teammate in Damon Jones.

What makes the highlight more memorable was the face mask James donned during the game against the Miami Heat. A month prior, LeBron was elbowed in the face by Dikembe Mutombo. The King would rock the plastic mask since that Houston Rockets game. On this play, Eddie Jones threw a corner pass, that LeBron snagged easily with his hops. On the fast break, ‘Bron kicked it to teammate Jeff McGinnis, who threw it back to James. Damon Jones was under the rim and inexplicably jumped before realizing who had the ball. Damon could only duck for cover mid-air as LeBron rose up for the right-handed poster dunk.

The Miami crowd roared in awe, as James stared down Jones. The Heat guard did his best not to look back, avoiding eye contact while brushing his head from the impact. LeBron then walked back to his bench smiling, removing his mask knowing he just had a career highlight.

The sneakers James wore for this highlight was the Nike LeBron 2. This sneaker was a first in many respects. It was the first to use his name, the first to use the L23 logo, and the first to utilize laser graphics. The LeBron 2 boasts a full-length Zoom Air bag for the responsiveness the King needed. The durable Zytel midfoot shank helps with stability. The removable velcro collar strap provided a lockdown fit around your ankles.

James rocked the black and crimson colorway for this poster slam, which you can find HERE.

You can find the Nike LeBron 2 at StockX, Flight Cluband Stadium Goods.
