Years of friendship dating back to their OKC days have helped Russell Westbrook and James Harden develop a special chemistry. This connection was on full display as their Houston Rockets faced the Utah Jazz in 2020.
On this play, James was dribbling the ball up the court while calling a set play. Teammate Danuel House quickly set a screen to get the Beard free to drive down the lane. With Rudy Gobert guarding the rim, Harden floated a pass way above the rim. Westbrook, meanwhile had just cut baseline from the corner and perfectly got to the spot of the ball. Russ got way up to slam the ball with his right-hand.
For some behind-the-scenes action, a Jazz fan told Russ to shoot the three on this play. Per usual, Westbrook does what he wants.
Russell Westbrook on his interaction with a fan before alley-oop: “Before the oop, the guy was telling me ‘Shoot the 3, shoot the 3, Gobert is the best defensive player in the league’. I said ‘Okay, okay, okay’…While he was talking, I just went backdoor” pic.twitter.com/w6KXEP1ToX
