The master of the stepback got a taste of his own medicine when James Harden was guarding Luka Doncic.
The Beard got switched onto Doncic on an off-ball screen from Maverick Tim Hardaway Jr. Luka kept Harden honest with a few between the leg dribbles. Doncic then stepped forward with his right foot, then gathered the ball stepping back. Not known for his defense, James contested perfectly on the long three, but the ball went straight through the net. Harden finally felt the helpless feeling when you can’t stop a stepback.
